Do you love reading manga? Take a break and enjoy our extensive manga library! We have over 500 volumes to choose from – with both popular titles & new ones to explore. Unleash your inner bookworm & dig into a good read!
We give thanks to the Penn State Anime Organization, known simply as PSAO, for providing part of their extensive library for us to use. With more than 600 titles and over 2,500 volumes of manga, the PSAO Manga Library provides members of the organization, Penn State students, and the local community a place to relax and enjoy the medium that they love.
The PSAO Laura Rayman Memorial Manga Library, which was renamed in 2016 in memory of long-time Setsucon attendee, manga library, and Central PA native Laura Rayman, is a fast growing collection of titles both new and old. Their collection is mostly donation based, having grown over the years as members have helped stock the shelves. A true symbol of the organization, the manga library is one of the first sights a new member sees as they walk into the organization’s office at the Pennsylvania State University.

A hero is only as good as their villain, and the best villains are the ones we love to hate. But how do you avoid the pitfalls of making your villain too flat, or too lame, or “evil for the sake of being evil”? In this lecture we’ll discuss the morals, motives, and modus opperandi of some famous villains, the nuances of antiheros, antagonists, and villains, and how to cut Satan a break—there are much more interesting and sinister figures for inspiration for your big baddies. A Q and A will follow.

Kick start your con weekend with the ultimate cozy hangout at our Friday Night Party Night Jackbox Party Event! After a busy first day of exploring the con, there is no better way to unwind than with a night of chaotic, laugh-out-loud gaming.
The beauty of playing Jackbox is that it is for everyone! We will be cycling through a curated selection of fan-favorite titles from Jackbox Party Packs, including the witty wordplay of Quiplash, the hilarious hidden-identity antics of Push the Button, and the creative chaos of Drawful. Whether you are competing for the high score on the big screen or voting from the audience to influence the results, everyone in the room is part of the fun!
And we take the “Party Night” theme seriously by embracing the cozy con aesthetic. We highly encourage all attendees to swap out their armor and wigs for their favorite kigus and pajamas! High-comfort is the theme of this environment, where you can relax with old friends and make new ones. It is the perfect atmosphere for those who want to experience the “nightlife” of a con in a relaxed, wholesome setting.
The Friday Night Party Night is specifically designed as an all-ages event, ensuring that everyone from the youngest fans to veteran con-goers can enjoy the Friday festivities together. It is more than just a gaming session; it is a community-experience! There is a unique kind of magic in a room full of people laughing at the same jokes and voting on the most who-knows-what drawings imaginable.

The Itasha Car Show is one of the con’s most visually striking attractions, transforming our corner of the Exhibitors Hall into a high-octane gallery of speed and style. Presented in partnership with Isekai’d Dreams, this showcase bridges the gap between automotive engineering and Japanese pop culture, featuring vehicles that have been meticulously transformed into moving tributes to anime, manga, and video games.
Whether you are a dedicated car geek or just a fan of amazing designs, the Itasha Car Show offers something for everyone. It is a rare opportunity to see the level of craftsmanship required to transform a car from an everyday drive into a magnificent canvas. See everything from sleek JDM legends to modern sportscars, all sporting vibrant wraps or detailed replications – looking like they’d fit right in within the world of Initial D. Get a chance to meet the owners of these vehicles – all who love to discuss their builds, the wrapping process, and the inspiration behind their designs.
The history of Itasha is a testament to the passion of the anime community and its desire to bring that into the car world. It began in the late 1980s and early 90s in Japan, particularly in the tech and anime hubs like Akihabara. Early enthusiasts would use small stickers and modest decals to signal their love for a particular series to fellow fans – it was a secret handshake of sorts, a way to make a car feel like a personal sanctuary for their passion.
As anime culture exploded globally in the 2000s, so did the ambition of Itasha owners. The rise of high-quality vinyl printing allowed fans to move beyond small stickers to full wraps – turning entire vehicles into high-definition tributes. This era saw the subculture shift from a niche hobby into a mainstream artistic movement. In Japan, events like Ita G Festa began drawing thousands of participants while professional racing teams began sporting liveries featuring characters like Hatsune Miku.
In the US, Itasha culture has become a cornerstone of the otaku lifestyle, representing a bridge between the automotive community and the anime world. For many owners, their vehicle is a labor of love that honors the stories and characters that have inspired them. It transforms the act of driving into a rolling celebration of medium, fostering a unique sense of camaraderie among fans who recognize a familiar character on the highway. Today, the Itasha movement stands as one of the most visible and impressive displays of fandom, where every curve of the car serves as a canvas for the art that defines our culture.

Be a part of brightening the day of a child in need by participating in the Jared Box Project. This heart-warming initiative focuses on delivering the “gift of play” to young patients in emergency rooms, hospitals, and surgical centers. Originally founded in 2001 in State College, PA, the project honors the memory of Jared, a brave young boy whose courage during his battle with cancer inspired a movement that has now reached every corner of the country.
The mission of a Jared Box is simple: to provide a distraction from the stresses of medical treatment through the joy of toys and games. Since its inception, the project has grown from a local effort into a national phenomenon, with over one million Jared Boxes delivered to more than 400 hospitals across the United States. Each box is a small, plastic shoebox filled with carefully selected items, such as crayons, card games, and small toys – tailored to a specific age group and gender. For a child facing a scary medical procedure, opening a Jared Box is a moment of pure magic that reminds them they are not alone.

Many of the over a thousand Pokemon are inspired by real animals. I am a professional wildlife researcher with a doctorate in biology, as well as a Pokemon fan since childhood. I wanted to look at where those two loves intersected, while using anime and video game fan’s excitement for Pokemon to teach them about some weird and fascinating wildlife species. Since there are so many Pokemon, this will not be a comprehensive look, but will pick a sample of 10-15 Pokemon and talk about the currently living wildlife species that inspired them, as well as touch on how the behavior and ecology of these real animals are referenced in the Pokemon games and anime. Some examples include the connection between tapirs and Drowsee, Relicanth and coelacanth, and the Nincada evolutionary line and cicadas. The goal of this panel is to educate about wildlife and entertain in the process!

What makes the AMV Contest truly special is that you are the judge! Every attendee in the audience has the opportunity to vote for their favorites in each category and the all around Best In Show winner! If you are looking to judge the complete contest, make sure to arrive early to grab your seat, stick around for all videos (from start to finish), and take notes during the event to make sure you remember everything that happened. Reminder – you must be there for the entire category in order to vote for a category winner, and must be there for the entire contest to vote for a Best In Show winner.
While judging, it is good to look at the contest through a technical lense, looking at the synchonization of the video and audio (look for movement in the video that lands exactly on beat, ask yourself if the cuts match the energy of the song), the creative storytelling and concept (does the narrative pull you in to the atmosphere that the editor intended), category specific excellence (how well does the video fit the theme of the category), and your own personal enjoyment of the AMV (did it give that wow factor that will make you want to watch it again and again).

With the loss of JoAnn Fabrics as a staple in the cosplay community, where do you turn when you need things such as fabric, patterns, machine accessories, and other supplies? Whether you’re just starting out or have been around for a while, we aim to help make things just a little easier now that we’ve lost one of our community go-tos. We’ll discuss things such as what places are out there for fabric and notions, where to find patterns, how to take your measurements so that you can select the right pattern size (and how not to feel discouraged by what the pattern recommends), and how to select the right machine for your needs. We’ll also provide a hard copy of the different places so that you have it on hand instead of having to rely on memory when searching for things! After all, cosplay is for everyone, and gatekeeping isn’t cool.

What happens when you bring a trio of industry icons together on one stage? Join Ryan Colt Levy, Reagan Murdock, and Megan Hollingshead for an exclusive, star-studded roundtable discussion covering the past, present, and future of voice acting. This moderated session goes beyond the basics to get to the heart of why we love these characters. Through a series of deep-dive questions, our guests will share their personal favorite roles, the most challenging scenes they’ve ever recorded, and those legendary “behind-the-scenes” funny moments that only happen in the booth. From the iconic sounds of early-2000s classics to the high-intensity energy of today’s biggest hits, this is a unique opportunity to see these three performers interact, share stories, and celebrate the craft that brings our favorite anime to life.
